Love of the World: The Giant You Must Kill

Having love for the world and things of the world is one of the ways a child of God can be deceived and entangled. Being overwhelmed by the material things of this world is an avenue for a serious entanglement of the enemy. The love God's children have for Him are constantly opposed by the things of the world and the system of the world. The things in the world crave the attention of people and if you are not careful and watchful as a child of God, you will be entangled (1 John 2:15-17).

When the desire for worldly possession is becoming intense in your heart, it jeopardizes your life and future. Inordinate desire for earthly possessions has put so many people into bigger troubles. A lot of people feel that they are free from seeking worldly pleasures, yet they harbour attitudes that depict them as such. It is true that we live in the world, yet the Lord expects us to avoid being engrossed by the things of the world (Matthew 6:33). Having love for the things of the world is caused by lack of self-control, indiscipline, inability to put fleshly desire into subjection, etc.

Love of the world is a giant or a stumbling block to your progress in life because it keeps you away from God and things of God. The word of God admonishes us to keep away from anything that will not glorify God. When we have love for the world, we become covetous, never to be satisfied with what we have. As a result, we develop the desire to acquire more things, and the more we have, the more we see more new things to acquire.

The Bible tells us that godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6-9). When learn how to honour God and center our desires on Him, we become contented with what God is doing in our lives and the giant of worldliness will be dealt with (Philippians 4:11-13). Do not allow the enemy to lock you up in the angle of worldliness and rob you of your great expectation. You do not have to disappoint God and the people of your generation.

As you rise up today to kill the giant of worldliness, may the Almighty God empower you and direct you. May you never fall victim of worldliness. May the light of the Almighty God overshadow you and guide your footsteps. Amen.

Amen.
